When you land at Sons of the Forest, you can only find a handful of supplies and a survivor left screaming on the beach. His name is Kevin, given the tag on the front of his shirt. He doesn’t seem particularly hurt, but he doesn’t speak. He can become a useful companion for you when playing Sons of the Forest, and you will need his help to survive. Here’s what you need to know about using Kevin in Sons of the Forest.

How Kevin works at Sons of the Forest

You can find Kevin when you first land in Sons of the Forest. You can choose to interact with him or not; when you do, you will find that he is bleeding from his ears and unresponsive. However, it understands and works with your commands through notepad. You can choose these first commands when you meet him for the first time.

You can cycle through the commands available to give to Kevin, and he’ll follow through as best he can. One of the best ideas might be to have Kevin follow you around until you can set up base camp, then order him to start scavenging for supplies or setting up the basics at camp, like a place to sleep or a place to eat.

You can change these commands by approaching Kevin by clicking the E button. This will open the notepad and you can select new commands to follow. Every now and then Kevin takes a break from these tasks to relax, so if you see him taking a break, don’t worry too much.

If you are playing a multiplayer game with friends, you can only have one Kevin. There cannot be multiple companions, so only one companion for each game of Sons of the Forest.
