Atomic Heart will have you fighting different types of robots. Some of them are easy to defeat while others will give you hell. Luckily, the developers were kind enough to add a variety of weapons and other combat mechanics to help you deal with the bots. But what really confuses some players is how to use cartridges in Atomic Heart. The game doesn’t give you proper instructions on how to use them, so we’ll go ahead and explain that in our guide.

How to Craft and Equip Cartridges in Atomic Heart

Before you can start using cartridges, you must first unlock the NORA station. You’ll eventually encounter one early in the game, and you’ll have a pretty tough encounter with him the first time around. However, once the station is unlocked, you will be able to find it in different places.

NORA lets you do a ton of things, including weapon customization. Each gun comes with a slotted cartridge attachment, so you don’t have to worry about unlocking it. But you will have to create one of the three cartridges available in the game; those who are ice, electricity and fire.

All three canisters can only be crafted once you have acquired their respective recipes. You won’t be able to find them at the start of the game, but you will eventually get one of the recipes after progressing a bit. Be sure to keep looting any large chests you find, as the recipes are hidden there.

Once you find a recipe for the cartridge, head to NORA to craft it. Then go to your weapon wheel and click on the icon located in the bottom center. From here you can select the cartridge you want for the weapon, as long as you have crafted it. You can then start dealing elemental damage to your enemies using the weapon. Make sure to use them against enemies that have some sort of elemental weakness or you’ll just be wasting your resources.
