Atomic Heart throws you into plenty of claustrophobic environments where you’ll need to use your combat and problem-solving skills to progress. Scattered around the game world and in each main lab are locks that open shortcuts or new areas with resources to collect. This guide explains how to troubleshoot each type of lock, so you’re not stuck staring at a lock that won’t engage.

How to solve rotating color locks

To solve these rotating color locks, you have to turn the central dial and move the colored dots inside until they line up with the lights around the lock. These can get quite tricky, especially later in the game’s story. However, they are all possible if you slow down and take the time to line up dot after dot. We found that starting with the closest color allowed us to look at the other dots and figure out how to move them around to align them more easily with the lights.

How to resolve code crashes

To resolve these blockages, look for a solution somewhere in the region. Code crashes are rare, but there are a few you’ll need to fix as you play. They look like a big circle with lots of buttons. You can’t solve these blocks without finding the solution elsewhere in the game. For example, the first one you find has a solution that only the stationmaster knew. To solve it, you need to find its body by talking to one of the nearby corpses and following what it says. The solution is on a sheet of paper near the stationmaster’s body.

How to Fix Click Crashes

To resolve stuck clicks, you need to press the X/A button when the red light comes on under an extended fuse to make them all green. These are the most common blocks in the game, and they’re relatively simple to solve as long as you have the right timing. It’s very easy to accidentally click just as the red light moves to one of the fuses you’ve already inserted, causing it to expand again. The key with these locks is to be patient and get the timing right, as the red light speeds up and changes direction as it moves around the lock. If you are unable to resolve the crash within the given time, you can quit and try again as many times as needed.

To choose standard door locks, you need to interact with them, use the left stick to turn the lock and the right stick to move to where your gauntlet tendrils are placed. It works exactly the same as picking locks in Skyrim or Fallout 76. Think of the tendrils on the glove as a hook and move the lock accordingly until it spins all the way to the right.

How to Open Key Disc Padlocks

Keyed disc locks require a keyed disc to be opened. There is no other way around them, so you need to find the key disk in the environment and then use it when interacting with the lock. The lock will open automatically as long as the key disk is in your inventory. Otherwise, you will stare at it desperately.
