In the village section of Resident Evil 4 Remake, you will find several Wayshrines while exploring this area. When you approach a shrine you can interact with them, but they will show their inventory and require a key to unlock. These require a specific key to unlock them, and tracking them takes time. Here’s what you need to know about how to open Wayshrines in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Where to find the Old Wayshrine key in Resident Evil 4 Remake

The only way to unlock Wayshrine locations is to find the Old Wayshrine Key. Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear for a while, so you’ll likely find several shrines you can interact with but won’t be able to open. Our best recommendation is to continue the story until Chapter 4. You should keep an eye out for this particular key, hidden somewhere along your path.

The Old Wayshrine Key spawns shortly after the start of Chapter 4 when you reach the Wall Cave. At this point, you’ll turn right and start your investigation at the two marked locations in the Wall Cave, which should give you access to the Church Key found in the Wall Cave. As you move towards the lake, to the right you will see a small shrine with a box inside.

Interact with the box and when you open it there will be an Old Wayshrine key which you can now use. This is how you can unlock all the shrines you have discovered while exploring the game and return to those places.

Shrines should have a distinctive identifying marker on their map, making it easy to track these past locations. You’ll have to do a significant amount of backtracking to find them, but the content they contain is beneficial and provides you with a good amount of money that you can spend on your Resident Evil 4 remake.
