While Minecraft has very relaxing background music at all times, you might get tired of hearing these sounds continuously. If you’re someone who knows how to make great music, there’s an item that lets you play a single note when it interacts with it. These items are also useful for keeping Allays in an area. Here’s how to create a notepad in Minecraft and start playing some sweet music.

How to Create a Notebook in Minecraft

Notepads are a fairly simple and straightforward item to create in Minecraft. All you need is eight wooden planks of any type and a single Redstone Dust. It doesn’t matter what kind of boards you have. When you’re on a workbench, place Redstone in the middle slot, with the boards surrounding it. Move the completed notebook to your inventory when you’re done.

Now that you have a note block, you can place it on any block and attack it to play a note as long as there is air above it. If you put a mob head on it, it will play the sounds the mob makes. You can change the pitch by interacting with it, and Redstone connections will also cause it to play. Depending on what the block is based on, a different type of instrument will be played. Here are all the possible instruments:

  • Banjo
  • down
  • bass drum
  • bells
  • Bit
  • chimes
  • clicks and sticks
  • cowbell
  • Vine
  • didgeridoo
  • ender dragon
  • Flute
  • Guitar
  • Arpa
  • iron xylophone
  • Piano
  • piglin
  • pling
  • Skeleton
  • Drum
  • withered skeleton
  • Xylophone
  • Zombies

If there are any allays within 16 blocks of the notepad when you play a sound, they will all go to the notepad and drop all the items they have gathered there. They will then momentarily search for items surrounding the notebook.
