If you enjoy collecting hard-to-find valuables and rarities while exploring your world’s northern landscapes, consider catching a Tetra, Valheim’s rarest fish. While it has no intrinsic value other than being an item support trophy, the Tetra is exceptionally rare, akin to a masthead encounter that appeared randomly on its map. The rarity of this fish stems from the fact that it only resides in a specific type of ice cave in the mountain biome. You might come across this cave within a few hours of gameplay, or you might not have discovered one yet in over 100 hours of gameplay.

Trap Tetra in Valheim

To catch a Tetra in Valheim, you discover a frost cave in Valheim with a pool of water. Although it may seem trivial, only a few caves on any world generate these cold pools inside their interiors. In other words, finding a Tetra habitat is not based on your ability to discover one, but rather on the RNG of the map generation. You can find one within a few hours of research or after a few minutes of visiting the mountain biome near you. The discovery of a Tetra Pond depends on chance in Valheim.

Like other fish in Valheim, Tetra prefers a specific type of bait: cold cast bait. To craft this bait in a cauldron, you’ll need to purchase a regular Haldor Fishing Bait and acquire a Werewolf-shaped Fenring Trophy from the Fenring. Not to be confused with his less humanoid counterpart from the Frost Caves, Fenring is a beast that only appears in the mountains at night. It can be difficult to find one, as they disappear at dawn. Once you find one, we recommend using fire arrows or an ember staff to kill it, as it is weak to fire. Has a 10% chance to drop your trophy, which can then be used to craft bait to trap Tetra in Valheim.
