Character is a series that Atlus has done very well over the years. Basically a Shin Megami Tensei the spin-off has become a more recognizable intellectual property to some than the original RPGs that spawned it. That means it can feel a bit overwhelming to jump into the series. Especially since there are numbered deliveries and spinoffs. It’s all fairly accessible though, and it’s not too difficult to get started if you’re wondering how to start playing through the Character Games.

How to play the main Persona games in order

First, here is the complete list of Character Games. Only certain entries must be played in order.

you should play Revelations: Person/SMT Person Before Person 2: Innocent SinNext innocent sin Before eternal punishment. There are overarching elements that come together here, as well as recurring characters.

with the posterior Character games, it is best to start with a character 3 enter, then go to character 4 there 5. However, all three are completely self-contained, so you don’t have to play them all in order or worry about losing context if you choose just one.

  • Revelations: Nobody (PSX) or Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP)
  • Person 2: Innocent Sin (PSX, PSP) – The PSX version only appeared in Japan.
  • Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSX, PSP) – The PSP version only appeared in Japan.
  • character 3 (PS2), Person 3 DO (PS2), or laptop person 3 (PS4, PSP, Switch, Xbox One, XSX, PC) – I recommend Person 3 DOsince it is the most complete experience, but laptop person 3 is the easiest to find and play now.
  • character 4 (PS2) or character 4 golden (PS4, Switch, Vita, Xbox One, XSX, PC) – Ir con character 4 golden here because it’s the easiest to find and features the most lore and gameplay.
  • character 5 (PS3, PS4) or real person 5 (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, XSX, PC) – real person 5 it’s the smart choice here, as it’s available on more platforms and includes additional story elements.

But what about Persona Game spin-offs?

Well, it’s not too complicated. Mainly, because only one line of spin-offs has a cohesive story. Although Baile there q the games are considered sequels, there is no overarching story.

persona 4 arena

These are fighting games with character 3 there 4 characters. Ultimax takes place after the original, so play them to get the full story! Although if you get one of the most modern remasters of Ultimaxyou are good and you can already do things right in order.

  1. persona 4 arena (PS3, Xbox 360) –
  2. Persona 4 Arena Ultimate (PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, PC) –

person dancing

All the person dancing entries are rhythm games. A good rule of thumb is to play those inputs whose soundtracks you liked the most.

  1. Person 4: Dancing all night (PS4, Vita) – Since this is the entry with a story mode, you’ll want to play it first.
  2. Persona 3: Dancing in the Moonlight (PS4, Vita) or Persona 5: Dancing in the starlight (PS4, Vita): Since these entries don’t have as much story and “happens” at the same time, you can choose which entry’s music you prefer first.

Person Q

These are basically Character assume the Etrian Odyssey dungeon mapping formula. Each delivery is independent. So play the original if you only like the character 3 there 4 characters and enter person Q2 If you like the Personas 3, 4 there 5 friends. The sequel is based on the mechanic, you might want to opt for this second if you play both.

  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS)
  • Persona Q2: new cinematic maze (3DS)

Persona 5 Strikers

This one is also rare! takes place after character 5. No real person 5, be specific. It’s a them-style beat’em up so play and beat character 5 before getting into this PS4, Switch and PC game for the best experience.
