Turtles are one of the most beloved reptiles in the animal kingdom, and their inclusion in Minecraft has made many seashell fans happy. In the block worlds of Minecraft, turtles are passive mobs that won’t attack you, so some people will want to keep a sea turtle in their house. If you’re looking to raise them from birth, here’s how to get sea turtle eggs in Minecraft.

Where to Find Sea Turtle Eggs in Minecraft

Sea turtle eggs can be found on beaches in ocean biomes. If a sea turtle has been bred, it can lay up to four eggs in a block. Be careful with them; walking on them or landing on them can end up cracking them and ending sea turtle nesting.

If you have found sea turtle eggs in the wild, the only way to collect them and put them in your inventory is to use a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment. If you break the eggs with anything other than an object with Silk Touch, the egg will be destroyed and nothing will spawn.

When you have a sea turtle egg in your possession, it will not hatch until you place it in another area and will only hatch at night. If you want to hatch the sea turtle in your house, put sand and water blocks for the turtle to explore and lay the eggs in one of these sand blocks. The turtle will remember this as its birthplace and will lay eggs again when it becomes an adult turtle. From there, the turtles will constantly return, so you don’t need to fence them off unless you want to protect them from hostile mobs.
