You can receive Refined metal dredged from the rusty pontoon, mined by the peddler, who sells it for $500 apiece. The Rusty Pontoon’s location is on the map above, in the North side of the bay at Northwest Gale Cliffsfacing the town of Ingfell across the bay.
$500 is clearly quite expensive, but it’s not hard to make money in this area: the bay is full of fishing spots and the merchant buys fish; in fact, it basically buys everything you have to offer. This means that if you don’t have the money, you can just go out and harvest the berry multiple times, which should provide the funds for the refined metal and subsequent hull upgrade without putting yourself in too much danger. Just be careful when entering the cliff network to the south of you – it’s a much riskier place to hunt, due to the things chasing you.
