To catch giant herring in the Valheim swamp biome, you’ll need a special lure called the Sticky Fishing Bait, smelly worms that the herring loves. Like other fish in northern landscapes, giant herring can be “mashed” into raw fish, an ingredient used in cooked fish and fish casings. However, the main reason most Adventurers will seek to catch a Giant Herring is to place its unique trophy in the lobby of their base camp. Luckily, you don’t need any special equipment to enter the swamp, but getting the materials to craft sticky fishing bait can be tricky.

Craft Sticky Fishing Bait in Valheim

The Sticky Fishing Lure in Valheim requires two resources: Fishing Lure x20 and Abomination Trophy x1. Those familiar with fishing will know that basic fishing bait cannot be crafted, but rather purchased from Haldor, the Dwarf Trader in Black Forest. Sells fishing bait in stacks of 20 for 10 coins per stack. You can find coins in dungeons, troll caves, Fuling villages, and random treasure chests. Selling valuables to Haldor is also a great source of gold income. On the other hand, getting an Abomination Trophy is anything but simple.

While exploring the swamp biomes of Valheim, you may have encountered the Abomination, a huge tree-like monster that pretends to be a tree trunk until its prey approaches. Unless you’re good at parrying or have a solid ranged weapon, taking down an Abomination can be incredibly difficult, especially for new adventurers. The wet, watery environment of the swamp will slow you down, but an Abomination’s massive legs allow it to quickly cover distance and crush its prey into the mud. To face these ferocious beasts, we recommend that you find a vantage point where she cannot reach your position and fire projectiles to gradually kill her. Once you have an Abomination Trophy, you can combine it with a Fishing Lure in a Cauldron to craft a Sticky Fishing Lure in Valheim.
