There are many materials you can find while exploring the world of Hogwarts Legacy. Potion ingredients and crafting materials can be found throughout the castle grounds and beyond. One of the most common materials you can find on earth is moonstone. These purple crystals are easy to spot and you can even find them early in the game. Of course, you might not know what to do with them right away. This guide will show you how to get and use moonstones in Hogwarts Legacy.

Where to find Moonstones in Hogwarts Legacy

Moonstones are fairly easy to find. Unlike the Troll Bogeys, you won’t have to search long before you find a few seams of these crystals scattered around the castle grounds or the Forbidden Forest. When looking for these gems, look around rocky areas such as cliffs and boulders. Often you will find multiple Moonstone veins in these areas that are ready to grab.

When you come across moonstones, you’ll need to hit them with a basic magic attack. This will break the Moonstone vein and allow you to collect them. Most veins will give you two or three moonstones to use. You will also get Moonstones by using Evanesco on furniture, but that will come later in the game.

How to Use Moonstones in Hogwarts Legacy

It’s pretty obvious what most of the materials you gather in the game are for. Most of the ingredients are used to brew potions, but moonstones are conspicuously absent from the list of materials needed to brew a good potion. Instead, you’ll need to make decent progress in the game before you can use these crystals.

Later in the game, you’ll get a main story mission that requires you to meet Professor Weasley in the Astronomy Tower. You will find the room on demand there. After completing the quest, you will learn that you can use the Moonstones to create furniture to place in the room. Moonstones are also used to change the appearance of some furniture.
