The stench of the dead is a resource in Hogwarts Legacy and is also one of the main ingredients in the Thunderbrew potion. Unlike other resources for potions, the stench of the dead can only be found if you are willing to explore more dangerous locations in the game and drop a specific creature. Here’s what you need to know to find the stench of the dead in Hogwarts Legacy.
Where to find the stench of the dead in Hogwarts Legacy
The only creature we’ve found in Hogwarts Legacy that reliably drops Stink of the Dead is the Inferi. You might come across these undead-like creatures as you explore the game and progress through the main story. Once they’ve disappeared from the main story, finding Inferi gets a little trickier, especially if you’re looking for them in enemy camps scattered throughout the game and trying to craft a Thunderbrew potion.

Luckily, there’s a good place you can farm to regularly find Inferi: Inferi Lairs. These locations are a great way to reliably acquire Stench of the Dead for your growing potion collection by defeating multiple Inferi in one location. One of the best places to find one of these dens is to visit Keenbridge. In the Hogwarts Valley region, you can find this town south of Hogwarts. Northwest of the city is a Nether Lair.

When you arrive, Inferi will start spawning from the ground and everyone you defeat has a decent chance of dropping Stink of the Dead. However, this does not always happen. Inferi will continue to spawn there until you leave, giving you plenty of opportunities to get this useful resource. You can do this at any Inferi Lair location in Hogwarts Legacy, making it a Stench of the Dead farming hotspot.
