The Modern Ax is a more powerful version of the starter ax you have at the start of your game in Sons of the Forest. It’s much larger and deals more damage to enemies, making it a must-have item during gameplay. Luckily, you can find it early in your game, but tracking it can be tricky. This is what you need to know to find the Modern Ax in Sons of the Forest.
Where to find the Modern Ax in Sons of the Forest
You can find it near one of the GPS locators. This GPS icon will be near the base of the snowy mountains, near one of the caves, and where one of the green markers is. You’ll find it inside an NPC’s chest, and you can interact with it to pull it out of its chest and equip it. You can use it similar to the starting axe, where you chop down trees, or use it against enemies.

The modern ax is extremely efficient, so we hope you don’t miss it. It will likely become a standard tool as you play. Unfortunately, just like tools, you won’t be able to use them in water, so you won’t be able to use them against sharks. However, if you’re in standing water and swing it at fish, you can use it against smaller fish to catch and cook at a nearby campsite. You have to see the fish swimming if you want to see them.
