Sons of the Forest lets you cook food that you can store in your inventory. Your character will be constantly hungry while you explore the forest, and you will also need food to heal him. Since you can run out of food you get as loot pretty quickly, you should rely primarily on cooked food. But for this you need to hunt animals. You can find different kinds of animals wandering in the forest and use any weapon to kill them. The bow is considered the best option for this purpose. However, if you don’t want to worry about the hunting part, you can build animal traps to catch them.

To create animal traps in Sons of the Forest, open your crafting book and switch modes. Then click on the top icon and select Cheats. Here you will find the Animal Trap option. Click on it and place the white outline where the animals are always nearby. The next thing you need to do is collect a total of 14 sticks, which can be picked up from the ground. Once done, approach the outline and press the ‘E’ key to build the trap. Remember that you have to keep pressing the key until you place all the sticks.
It is important to note that you will not catch an animal using the trap instantly. It will take some time for the trap to catch an animal, so it will be wise to continue with your normal tasks and come back after a good amount of time.
