In the quest Recording Rarities for the Traveling Merchant, he will ask you to collect four fish for him and return it to him. Here’s what you need to know about how to complete the Record Rarities quest in Dredge.

How to catch all rare fish for the Recording Rarities mission in Dredge

There will be four fish you need to catch for this mission. You need to catch an Oarfish, a Gobbler Eel, a Goliath Tigerfish, and a Coelacanth. It is important to note that these fish require a unique fishing rod for each. If you don’t have access to that particular fishing rod, we recommend that you don’t continue with this quest, but knowing where to find those fish will come in handy as you progress through the game.

Where to row

You can find the Oarfish in the Gale Cliffs area in the southeast part of the map. This particular fish is exceptionally hard to track, but you can find it behind a waterfall in the far southeast. Continue through the waterfall and there will be a place where you can try to catch an oar. You will need an Abyssal Fishing Rod for this fish.

Where to fish the Gourmet Eel

For Gulper Eel you will have to go to the southwest region, Stellar Basin, an area attacked by a large creature that resides in the center of small islands. You’ll want to avoid this location, but head to the northeast area near the research outpost and you should be able to find a Gulper Eel spawn near the trench leading to the center. You will need a Hadal Fishing Rod to catch the Gulper Eel.

Where to fish for coelacanth

When you’re looking for the Coelacanth, it’s time to head to the northeast region of the map, towards Devil’s Spine. Unfortunately, to get to the place where you can fish for the Coelacanth, you will have to acquire an explosive to destroy a rock wall to reach it. Like rowing, you will need a fishing rod that can be used on deep-sea fish.
