Developer Epic Games updates Fortnite regularly, with new seasons coming every three months or so. Each new season completely refreshes the game, bringing a new map, skins to earn, and more for fans to enjoy. However, all of this new content comes with a catch: you have to go through server downtime and download an update. This guide explains how long Fortnite servers will be down and when the next season will begin.

How long will Fortnite’s current downtime last?

Fortnite’s current downtime is expected to last approximately five hours. This is the time it usually takes Epic Games to set up a new season, although it takes longer if complications arise. The official Fortnite Status account notified fans about this on March 10, explaining that matchmaking had been disabled and the update was in progress.

This server downtime will give the development team time to load Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, test it, and then let it out into the wild where everyone can enjoy it.

Server downtime for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 began at 2 a.m. ET. We expect it to last five hours, which means downtime should end around 7 a.m., which is when the new season will begin. Of course, this could be extended if there are any problems implementing the new season.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 adds a lot of new content to the game. There is a new map, a new Battle Pass to chew and a The attack of the Titans crossed skin. The season takes players to Mega City, a Neo-Tokyo inspired map that stands in stark contrast to anything we’ve seen in the game to date.

Based on the leaks and what we saw in Chapter 4 Season 1, we expect additional skins to be unlocked through challenges in this new season. There will also likely be events that appear in-game out of nowhere. Last season we had a creed 3 event related to the release of the film. There may not be a brand deal during Chapter 4 Season 2, but it’s still worth keeping an eye out for.
