Several wires in the Hogwarts Legacy Reddit criticized the game for the lack of pale skin tones in the character creation. Some fans say they want to be able to recreate themselves (or an alternate version of Draco Malfoy), but the options don’t allow them to do so at the moment.

Lack of pale complexion at Hogwarts Legacy could be due to poor lighting

Scrolling through the comments on the two Reddit threads on the subject (here and here), some fans are disappointed that the palest skin tone options are several shades darker than their own skin color. Both threads were temporarily deleted, possibly due to their controversial nature, but have been reinstated by a moderator.

In particular, one self-described “English and pale” user hoped the game would have better represented that segment of the population. Another person from “the northernmost part of a Nordic country” also writes that “skin colors have nothing to do with my white, vampiric, almost translucent skin in real life.” A player also points out the lack of paler skin tones in terms of Asian characters.

That being said, other reviewers responded saying that the character creator’s lighting was actually faulty and the character looked more tanned than in the game. Anyway, many ask Avalanche Software to include paler skin tones in a future patch.

On the other hand, the game’s character creation was generally praised for including a wider range of hairstyles, with a popular tweet noting that it makes “black people’s hair look good”.
