Apple AirTags were primarily designed to help find lost items, but government agencies have a use for them too, according to a new report from Forbes that showed how the Drug Enforcement Agency has been able to uncover illegal activity.

Essentially, the DEA used AirTags to track packages it believed were being used for illegal purposes. A machine that turned powder into pills, for example, must have been involved in criminal activity.

The DEA turned to AirTags on regular GPS devices because the regular devices they used sometimes didn’t work and were less reliable. It looks like this pairing isn’t completely future-proof, as Apple’s AirTags will notify people if an AirTag is tracking them, which means they might not be the most discreet tracking method. .
