Xbox studio Ninja Theory returns to reveal more details about the development process behind its impressive sequel to Hellblade: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. To be clear up front; There’s no new gameplay here, but there’s plenty of information to dig into about the team’s next Icelandic adventure in the 10th century.

Speaking of Iceland, the location of the game, the development team uses scans from all over the country to create the landscapes of Hellblade 2. These scans are then combined with real images taken during trips to Iceland to use a technique called photogrammetry, something Playground Games used to recreate its open-world depiction of Mexico in Forza Horizon 5.

While Ninja Theory’s dark and atmospheric adventure seems very different Compared to what Playground built in 2021, FH5 looked nice and sharp when it comes to in-game environmental details, so we have high hopes the team can achieve similar results here.

Hopefully we’ll see more real gameplay in action very soon, because we’ve been dying to see more since The Game Awards 2021. Xbox’s upcoming summer showcase seems like a good choice, doesn’t it?
