Last month, we reported on an indie game billed as “Wind Waker meets Kiki’s Delivery Service,” and within weeks its Kickstarter focus was dropped entirely (Opens in a new tab).

We knew from the start that cute and cute messenger Mika and the Witch Mountain had a compelling pitch, but no one could have predicted that it would bring in $1 million to early supporters less than a month after it launched on Kickstarter with a goal of $42,195. . It’s a good thing, though, because hitting that number means an important goal has been met, and we’re now getting three Zelda-like “dungeon levels” we wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.

If you’re new to Kickstarter, stretch goals are basically dollar amounts set by the developers that, if achieved, guarantee that certain features are added to the game. For example, when Mika and Witch’s Mountain have reached the promised 850K , he gave the developers the funds to add broomstick flight tricks, and at 900K, a side quest involving kittens was added. Now at a million, it looks like we have three The Legend of Zelda-inspired dungeons.

Looking at the Kickstarter campaign trailer, Mika and the Witch’s Mountain looks like a treat. Its “little sandbox” is almost oddly inspired by Wind Waker and the gameplay – which seems to involve flying your broomstick, solving environmental puzzles and delivering packages – seems to be quite meditative.

Expect Mika and Witch Mountain to come to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC “around October” this year.
