The Genshin Impact Warrior’s Spirit event is a fighting tournament that reveals a new opponent every day, but none of us expected to fight a dog on the fourth day. And it’s not just any dog: Taroumaru is somehow the owner of the Komore Teahouse in Inazuma. He also served the Shuumatsuban, which is basically the ninja division of the Yashiro Commission. Yes, Taroumaru is a ninja dog and this anime game forces you to fight him one on one.

Taroumaru’s story is fascinating, given that he is, well, a dog. And this isn’t the first time he’s appeared in a limited-time battle event to return to his ninja roots. The Hues of the Violet Garden event had players fighting against it in Genshin Impact version 2.6.

This event happened in April 2022, and even as a day one player, I totally forgot about it – HoYoverse has added a lot more content since then. So I’m sure newcomers were even more confused than me when Taroumaru appeared in Warrior’s Spirit.

Once you get past the initial shock of Taroumaru facing you with a sword in your mouth, things get even weirder. He grows to more than double his normal size when the fight begins and also uses electric attacks as if he were a vision.

It’s a shame that Taroumaru will probably never be playable, but maybe we can get a fake Taroumaru device as a companion, just like we did with Cloud Retainer. That is, if HoYovere adds non-floating companions.

You can’t travel with Taroumaru, but Genshin Impact version 3.4 banners offer the option to add Hu Tao and Yelan to your parties, two of the best characters in the entire game for both primary and secondary DPS categories.
