New PowerWash Simulator DLC is canon in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and fans are going crazy.

Earlier this month, the Midgar Special Pack made its debut in PowerWash Simulator, transporting cleaners through the streets of Midgar for pressure washing action. Players are tasked with clearing iconic Final Fantasy 7 gear like Cloud’s Buster Sword, as well as the towering Scorpion Sentinel (thankfully not in battle mode).

Now, however, it’s emerged that the Midgar Special Pack actually has a narrative for PowerWash Simulator players to delve into, and additionally, it’s canon for the events of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It turns out that the player receives text messages from characters like Tifa and Reeve, helping them with their cleaning duties and giving them in-world updates on current events in Midgar.

So, for example, you get a relieved message that you weren’t cleaning up when Cloud and company attacked Mako Reactor 1 in the opening of Final Fantasy 7. In an interview with Touch Arcade (opens in new tab), PowerWash designer Simulator director Dan Checker revealed that Square Enix is actively working with Futurlab to approve all aspects of the DLC, including the narrative.

“Nomura is just built differently,” reads the Twitter reaction from the Final Fantasy 7 series creative director, known for incorporating the game’s vital lore into companion material like this. “Leave Nomura cannon Power Wash Simulator on FF7R,” wrote another equally amusing Twitter user.

Cloud and Tifa fans are really eating the new narrative. Like the Twitter user below, for example, Cloud Senders and Tifa have a lot of fun receiving text messages from PowerWash Simulator characters, reinforcing the obvious romantic dynamic between the two (in his own words, not ours). ).
