As FIFA 23 marks the end of the football confederation’s partnership with EA, newly re-elected FIFA President Gianni Infantino says the organization will take on EA Sports in the world of football games by launching a football series rival and declaring that it will be “the best egame for any girl or boy.”
Despite a long-standing creative partnership, in May 2022 EA Sports announced that it was parting ways with FIFA, reportedly due to licensing cost issues. FIFA 23 represents the latest sports game made in cooperation between the two organizations, with future EA football games under the franchise title “EA Sports FC”.
However, FIFA are planning to launch their own rival football game, with Gianni Infantino, recently elected for a third term as FIFA president, saying there will be news of the next series very soon. Martyn Ziegler, the Times’ chief sportswriter, shares a quote from Infantino at a press event marking his re-election.
“The new FIFA game, FIFA 25, 26, 27, etc., will always be the best electronic game for any girl or boy”, Infantino of. “We will have news on this very soon.”
Based on our own FIFA 23 review, it’s arguable that the split could work in EA Sports’ favor, giving the studio a chance to reinvigorate and refresh a series that’s grown a bit stale in recent years. With Pro Evolution Soccer, PES eFootball as it is now called, seemingly far behind its former rival, it will be nice to see a few different competitors on the soccer field in the near future.
