The new production from Japanese studio Mistwalker will be an Apple Arcade exclusive.
Developed by Hironobu Sakaguchi and his teams, Fantasian is a new role-playing game set against a spectacular backdrop made up of over 150 handmade dioramas, mixing physical environments and 3D characters.
The key elements of Fantasian
- New Combat Mechanics – Drawing on his experience in the Final Fantasy franchise, Sakaguchi brings several improvements to Fantasian from the classic Japanese RPG genre, such as the “Dimengeon Battle” combat mechanic which allows players to send previously encountered enemies in a dimensional dungeon to streamline combat and maximize uninterrupted exploration.
- Handcrafted Environments – Each of the more than 150 dioramas was made by masters of the Japanese “Tokusatsu” or special effects industry. The creators of the miniature sets of Fantasian are veterans who have worked on projects like the films Godzilla, Attack on Titan and Ultraman.
- Legendary Soundtrack – Famous composer Nobuo Uematsu, known for his work on the Final Fantasy series and games such as Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, has created a soundtrack to complement the memorable and magical world of Fantasian for decades. eye-catching battle tunes to jaw-dropping dungeon pieces and touching character themes.
- Storytelling of a Novel – To tell an epic story, a novel approach has been used in the form of a memory system where players encounter and collect various memories, journal entries and notes presented as miniature novels in-game to flesh out the story, realms, and characters of Fantasian. These miniature novels feature unique graphics, music and sound effects to provide gamers with a truly immersive experience.

The story is written by Hironobu Sakaguchi and is complemented by a far-reaching soundtrack by famous composer Nobuo Uematsu: “It all starts in a kingdom ruled by machines. In this multidimensional universe, the balance of Chaos and Order becomes a key factor in the struggle for these realms and the machinations of the gods who want to control them. The main protagonist, Leo, wakes up from a massive explosion to find himself lost in a strange land where only one memory remains. Players will embark on a journey to recapture Leo’s memory, while unraveling the mysteries of a strange mechanical infection that is slowly engulfing everything humanity knows.”
Fantasian will be released exclusively on Mac, iOS and tvOS via Apple Arcade later this year.
