Dark clouds are gathering over this year’s E3 show. Following the withdrawal of several major players, rumors are surfacing online that E3 2023 may be cancelled.

Update: E3 2023 is really taking a beating today. Two other companies have announced they are leaving the series: Sega and Level Infinite (via IGN).

Recent events certainly do not inspire optimism in the organizers of this year’s E3.

We knew that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo would not participate in the event, and yesterday we learned that another major publisher has resigned: Ubisoft.

E3 2023 in danger

While the problems seem to pile up endlessly in front of the organizers, a suggestion has surfaced online that the fair will not take place at all. andy robinson, a reporter from the Video Games Chronicle, reported on Blood that he had recently “heard no good news” (implied: behind the scenes) about the fate of the upcoming event, and wouldn’t be surprised if it was canceled.

In response to the tweet, many commenters expressed concern; after all, canceling the fair would be a great shame, as he said hollie bennett border developments:

“It’s a shame because it’s easily the lowest display price ever, like it’s WILD how much they’ve dropped. They have some great plans too, this year really is a great opportunity for the E3 to come back too :(“

In response, Robinson wrote that he was optimistic about this year’s program, but in the current situation there’s too much hype surrounding E3 2023 to be sure of anything.

June 11-16 has been set as the date for the event. The same month will also see a slew of competing shows from companies that have pulled out of E3, including PlayStation Showcase and Xbox Live Fest. Will this year’s program be up to the challenge? We will probably find out soon.
