A grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump over a payment he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 general election. It is the first time a former US president has faced criminal charges.

A statement from the Manhattan District Attorney’s spokesperson reads: “Tonight we contacted Mr. Trump’s attorney to arrange his delivery to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for arraignment in a Supreme Court indictment, which remains under seal. Advice will be provided. when an arraignment date is set.”

Trump is expected to surrender by the end of the week. He will be photographed and prosecuted for a criminal arrest, which will likely lead to some kind of backlash from his followers. New York police have been notified and prepared for an “unusual mess” when Trump is brought in.

This will likely have a big effect on Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. In response, Trump attacked the left, saying it was a political move. “I think this witch hunt will backfire on Joe Biden,” said. “Our movement and our party, united and strong, will first defeat Alvin Bragg, then we will defeat Joe Biden.”

Top Republicans also back Trump, calling impeachment a “unprecedented abuse of power”.
