A Destiny 2 Lightfall sparrow story entry contains a Morse-coded message that appears to be from a familiar NPC, astute gamers noticed in the popular FPS game. The character also appears in the game’s new story mission.

The Morse code message on the Inside Line Exotic Sparrows story tab translates to “STILL ALIVE INSIDE THE IDIOT KIDS NET”. While the game doesn’t specifically tell players who shared the post, the wording is reminiscent of a character who has been MIA for over two years.

While new players might not be familiar with grumpy investigator Asher Mir, veteran players were happy to hear about his possible return to the space game. The message mirrors something Asher would say, and his last known location before Lightfall was submerged in a body of Vex radiolar fluid just before Io and several other celestial bodies vanished from the game. Additionally, Asher was previously known to communicate in Morse code.

The implication is that Asher, whose arm became that of a Vex after being captured by Vex enemies long ago, survived within the Vex network. This network could be likened to a metaverse in that it can exist as an avatar or in a space between technology and the real world. The Vex themselves are living beings, though they also have a robotic form.

Asher’s form also appears in the new mission Partition: Hard Reset, part of a series of new activities and missions in Season of Defiance. It’s unclear what role he’ll play in the season’s story, but players shared their excitement about seeing Asher’s likeness again. Here’s a snippet of how he appears in the mission.

The reference to “dumb kids” could refer to the story entry Inside Line, which features a relatively mundane story about two children who contact each other via radio signals in Neomuna. This would suggest that Asher may be trying to communicate with them, but they are unaware of his message.

Players can earn the Inside Line Exotic Sparrow as part of the in-game Season 20 Pass rewards. Notably, the mission also contains areas where players must use their sparrows, leading some players to call for the return of the Sparrow. Racing League. An event activity from the original Destiny game, Sparrow Racing League involved Guardians competing in sparrow races and was a popular activity for players.
