Dead Space, the horror game originally released in 2008 by Visceral Games, received an impressive remake from Motive Studio and was released on January 27. The USG Ishimura mining vessel has always been the backbone that drives this spectacular horror and shooting game, and considered one of the best horror games of all time. However, after seeing the ship and the atrocities that populate it, I wonder if that’s still the case. USG Ishimura itself met my expectations.

As Engineer Isaac Clarke, a previously unspoken character now voiced by actor Gunner Wright from Dead Space 2 and 3, I land on the ship with my crewmates, including Security Chief Hammond and IT Kendra Daniels. I was blown away by the shadows surrounding the ship, the colors, and the sharpness the developer gave to Isaac’s scout suit.

The game launches well, because unlike some slow and sometimes annoying loading screens, this new version of Dead Space moves seamlessly. This cool remake adds accessible rooms with an additional security permission system. (Level 1, 2, and 3 clearance are earned naturally as you progress through the game), continuing exploration even after the hallways of the Ishimura become familiar, and optional side quests for more background and character information.

But, on top of that, Dead Space 2023 has improved upon the great story that Dead Space 2008 first presented. Especially since this episode allows us to see in more detail the members of the Unitologist cult who infect people with their Red Marker in their quest for promotion, so Exploration is still one of its strengths., and optional secondaries for more character context and background. What about the great graphics we saw during our adventure, they are perfect!

Many would expect that, being a remake, Dead Space would retain its classic graphics, but with a small lighting tweak. This does not happen. On the contrary, we fans received a whole new game, as some “bosses” received new additions to their already gruesome aspects. Additionally, the final boss has received a big improvement in terms of appearance, as he is now bigger, more powerful, and fearsome.

In general, this game leaves us with good impressions, it is not for nothing that we older fans loved it. Hopefully, we’ll soon see the entire Dead Space series return to the hands of Motive Studio, as they’ve done a more than impressive job with this installment. Rating wise, this game gets a 9. It could be a 10, but for that it would have been great to see some new weapons and more new missions, but overall great!
