For those out there, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is on the decline, with players flocking to Riot Games’ shiny new FPS game Valorant instead of Valve’s classic shooter. However, it looks like the developer is planning something exciting for the game, as two executables found in a recent NVIDIA driver update point to a possible CSGO 2, or at least a Source 2 port of the current game.

As spotted by a fan named u/DAOWAce but reported by CSGO Aquarius content creator ‘Aquaismissing’, NVIDIA’s latest set of drivers apparently has “support for unknown application executables called ‘csgos2.exe’ and ‘ cs2.exe'”.

They then specify that cs2.exe appears to be a “leftover from 2014”, in connection with a similar leak showing “cs2.exe” which was quickly debunked. However, they state that “source 2 occurs; it’s a real thing with its own executable ‘csgos2.exe'”

Importantly, Aquarius claims that the data indicates that “separate games are not made” and that “their skins are safe.”

As a result of these findings, – Game News has contacted Valve for further information and will update this post as more news is released.

It goes without saying that CSGO is a very old game, and while some say the game feels its age, it surpassed its maximum player count two weeks in a row in February 2023 alone. The CSGO community is what keeps the game alive and they are committed to don’t be a “dead game”

Whether there’s any substance to a Counter-Strike 2 remains to be seen. Sure, that’s exciting, but as Aquarius points out, “It could be that ‘Counter-Strike’ was picked up (by 1.6) and Valve devs got lazy so they just added ‘2’ at the end.” What I’m saying is take it all with a grain of salt.
