Data miners have noticed a new profile present in the latest Nvidia driver update. In this profile there are 2 executable files, “cs2” and “csgos2”, proof of a Counter-Strike 2?
Data miners have discovered a new game profile. Added with latest Nvidia driver update, appears as Counter-Strike 2. Knowing that there is no game with this name at Valve, speculation on a Counter-Strike 2 began.
According to rumours, the profile contains two executable files called “cs2” and “csgos2”. This is the first time a profile with this name has appeared in an Nvidia update. This could mean that Counter-Strike has reached a critical point in the development process that a third-party company like Nvidia is aware of. However, Counter-Strike continues to break all records. The ‘csgos2’ executable may indicate a direct sequel to Counter-Strike Global Offensive. The extra “S” at the end is still quite vague. Maybe a seasonal system?

Nvidia has a good track record of leaking video games before they were officially announced. Previously, a list Rated games compatible with Nvidia GeForce now leaked online and revealed many upcoming triple-A titles.
However, Valve’s case is different. The company is well known for teasing fans, especially data miners, about upcoming projects.. Most notably, a leak in the Steam Deck Aperture Desk Job game that referenced two upcoming Valve projects. One of the two hinted at a shooter with hero-based elements and a PvPvE setting. Although this is not the description of what one can expect from a Counter-Strike 2, there has been no official information about this leak.
Currently, the latest AAA released by Valve is Half-Life: Alyx, a VR-exclusive title released in 2020. Since then, Valve has announced and launched Steam Deck as a new portable platform. However, no specific video game project has been confirmed so far.
Valve has the rights to big licenses like Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead…; a sequel would be great news for the industry and even for the esports scene. Unfortunately, Valve generally keeps their mouths shut on their plans until they’re close enough to a final release..
