Civilization 6 was released almost five years ago. To date, the developers at Firaxis have regularly provided the round strategy game with new content and extensive updates in addition to two regular extensions. This comparatively long period of content support for the title now seems to be drawing to a close.

Just a few weeks ago, the team released the Portugal Pack, the last paid DLC of the so-called New Frontier Pass. Now, with the April 2021 update, the last of the regular free patches is imminent.

The update will be released next Thursday, April 22nd, 2021. One day in advance, the developers will be providing information on the content of the April patch in a live stream from 8 p.m.

Among other things, there will be three new units for all civilizations, two new maps with a real starting point and an optimized balance of the AI when dealing with marine. With the help of player feedback, a number of changes have also been made to a number of existing civilizations.

The changes affected include Spain, Khmer, China and Canada. You can get a few details in the preview video at the end of this message.

With this degree, of course, the question arises for Civ fans how things will continue. So far, the Firaxis developers have not commented on this. It is conceivable that the makers will put on another season.

Because the game continues to enjoy enormous popularity with a consistently high number of players, some of which are even better than in the first years after the release. On the other hand, in the eyes of some fans, it is time for a successor.

After all, the series has always followed a rhythm of 5-6 years between the individual parts. Whichever the Firaxis developers decide, we’ll keep you posted.
