Cities: Skylines 2 has captured the imagination of many fans. The developers of Colossal Order answer a few questions plaguing the community.

The announcement of Cities: Skylines 2 by Colossal Order in March received a warm response from the community. The prospect of an upcoming sequel to the popular city builder has sparked arguments among fans, who have begun to speculate about the new game’s potential form and content.

The developer recently addressed several of the most pressing issues in a short Q&A session.. Here’s what Colossal Order had to say about the game:

mod support

Undoubtedly, an important topic for an engaged community are mods.. Asked about possible support for fan-made content prepared with the first part in mind, the developers clearly answered:

“Cities: Skylines 2 is a brand new game. The current content of the Workshop (Steam – editor’s note) will most likely need to be reworked or adapted. (to the new game – editor’s note).

Colossal Order also promised to revisit the mod-related topic in the future.

multiplayer mode

Important information is the one that suggests the absence of a multiplayer mode in CS2. Although the first game also lacked a similar feature (at least without the use of mods), some players were interested in the possible introduction of such a mode in the sequel. However, as the developers commented:

“It takes a lot of time and resources to implement multiplayer support, which would take away the work on the core game experience that we’re trying to create.”

While the quote doesn’t unequivocally derail the possibilities of multiplayer, it clearly suggests that functionality isn’t high on Colossal Order’s priority list.

Other content released by the developers basically confirms previous reports. For example, information about the game engine has been confirmed. Cities: Skylines 2 will be powered by Unity.

The game’s exact release date is not yet known, but the debut is expected later this year. The title will appear on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. CS2 is also coming to Game Pass.
