You’ve probably never heard of Chainsawesome Games unless you’re really into local multiplayer and familiar with the genre’s indie scene. They were the ones who created the hugely successful Knight Squad, in which up to eight players (sorry, gentlemen) had to participate in various events.
It was later followed by Knight Squad 2, which was also very good, but was more or less the same with improved production values. Their third match was Aftercharge, which unfortunately fell short of expectations. And now things are over for the studio.
It is via their Discord channel that Chainsawesome Games announces that they are forced to close the studio:
“It is with broken hearts that we must announce the closure of Chainsawesome Games. The failure of Aftercharge and the moderate success of Knight Squad 2 have placed too much financial and emotional pressure on us, and our new prototype has not met our expectations. We came to the conclusion that it was time to move on and say goodbye.”
We would like to thank all the members of this community for their support during all these years. You gave us the motivation to create new innovative games and push our limits. We will always remember how much fun we had when we developed Aftercharge with your help and when we all played together during the test sessions. We could not have come this far without you and we will always be grateful for your dedication to our study.
For now, Knight Squad 2 is still available on all digital stores (PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox), but when indie studios close, self-published games are often pulled from stores. If you like local multiplayer (with four players it’s great, with more it’s absolutely great), make sure you get it before it’s gone forever.
