No new “Mario Kart”, no fresh “Super Mario”, and yet 2022 could have been the highlight for Nintendo fans. The sequel to ” Breath of the Wild ” was supposed to be released for the Nintendo Switch this year. But nothing will come of it now. Eiji Aonuma, Nintendo’s lead developer of the “Zelda” series, brought the bad news via Twitter.

Zelda not until spring 2023

Although Nintendo previously announced that it would release the game in 2022, it has now decided to change the date. Instead of in the course of the year, the successor to the switch hit should not appear until spring 2023. So fans have to wait another year. But the wait should be worth it: Nintendo wants to use it to “make the gaming experience something special,” says Aonuma. He apologizes to everyone who was already looking forward to this year’s release.

After the apology, Aonuma reiterates what we already know about Breath of the Wild 2 – just in case you forgot what you’re really looking forward to. In the new part, Nintendo expands the game world. Gamers can now also explore the airspace above Hyrule and can look forward to new attacks and additional gameplay elements.
