Bitcoin acceptance has increased dramatically in the past few years. Companies like Tesla showed their interest in cryptocurrency by taking billions of dollars in their hands and building their own crypto holdings.

Just yesterday, Tesla boss Elon Musk announced that US citizens can now pay for Tesla with Bitcoin! To top it all off, Elon Musk announced that Tesla will not exchange the Bitcoin for fiat currencies after the transaction, but will store it in Bitcoin.

Now Microsoft also seems to have recognized the value of Bitcoin and Co. According to reports, Microsoft is asking its Xbox users if they want to use Bitcoin as a payment method in the Xbox Store.

In an Xbox Insider survey, the company asked, “Which of these other payment methods would you like to use on Xbox?” According to a Reddit post, one of the options available was “Pay with Bitcoin”.

Does Microsoft support Bitcoin?

Before the Bitcoin wave in 2017, Microsoft had already added Bitcoin support as a payment method to its digital storefront.

This was then removed in 2018, with the company citing cryptocurrency volatility as the reason for the removal. Bitcoin support was restored shortly thereafter, but now it appears to have been removed again.

There is no reference to Bitcoin in the Payment Methods section in Microsoft Account Options and previous instructions have now been removed. Online reports suggest that the Xbox or Windows stores support bitcoin payments, but many of the users couldn’t find such options when trying to pay with the digital currency.

Could Xbox add bitcoin support?

Given the mention of Bitcoin in the Xbox Insider Survey, Xbox support for cryptocurrency hasn’t been ruled out. However, since this is only a beta testers survey, this is not a confirmation of Bitcoin support.
