In NHL 23’s World of CHEL and EASHL, users can control their avatars’ style and play and action stats. This can be done by mixing and matching a player’s weight, height, and X-factor. So which builds do you recommend for NHL 23? Let’s go through our picks, based on how the meta plays out in the hockey simulation game.

Speed

  • Class – Hanger
  • Height – 5’7″
  • lester – 160 lbs.
  • pulse 1 – Durable skater
  • pulse 2 – Power skating
  • The X Factor Zone – Lack of proximity

The NHL 23 meta revolves around two strengths: speed and strength. We’ll start with the Quick Dangler build, which maximizes ice skating. Go for a small build, then load up with speed-focused boosts and area options. This version could go with Close Quarters like X-Factor. Close Quarters increases the completion capacity in the slot machine area. Or, Dangler builds could go with something different like Elite Edges or Puck on a String, in case those players want a change of pace.

Strength

  • Class – Front of power
  • Height – 6’2″/6’7″
  • lester – 210-220 pounds.
  • pulse 1 – Durable Skater / Charged Shots
  • pulse 2 – Power Skating/Rising Hits
  • X-factor area – Triggering

Truculence is arguably the most popular X-Factor in NHL 23, thanks to its incredible ability to improve body controls. Power Forward builds have access to this X-Factor, giving it great weight in the world of CHEL and EASHL. If you’re looking to build a modern Mark Messier, a Power Forward/Truculence build is the start.

All around

  • Class – Round trip in both directions
  • Height – 6’0”
  • lester – 200 pounds.
  • pulse 1 – Durable Skater
  • pulse 2 – Power skating
  • X-factor area – Heat Finder / Quick Pick

You have to give love to these players like Patrice Bergeron. Versatile players who are good at both attack and defense can opt for a two-way forward construction. Keep it simple, fast and make sure you’re responsible defensively. Quick Pick, which helps intercept the puck, should be useful for obstructing the neutral zone in the middle of the ice.

filming

  • Class – sniper
  • Height – 5’7″
  • lester – 160 lbs.
  • pulse 1 – Durable skater
  • pulse 2 – Power skating
  • The X Factor Zone – Lack of proximity

Aside from the class change, the stats of a Sniper version are nearly the same. Close Quarters will help with close finishing, and players can tweak stats here and there to make a sniper build more accurate and powerful when shooting.

Defensive

  • Class – Defensive Defense
  • Height – 6’4″
  • lester – 220-230 pounds.
  • pulse 1 – Durable Skater / Charged Shots
  • press 2 – Power Skating/Rising Hits
  • The X Factor Zone – Triggering

As with power forwards, defenders, especially defensive backs, can use the deadly X-factor of Truculence. The Frostbite engine has benefited larger builds over the past couple of years, and part of that is due to an X-factor that allows these users to maximize checkability.

Now, if you want a more nuanced build for a defender, that might as well. Users can create a smaller, but faster two-way defender. Quick Pick would be a good X factor for this particular build. Meanwhile, offensive defenders could use Thunderclap, Heatseeker or One Tee. If you’re on an EASHL team that wants to generate offense through point shots and deflections, consider an offensive defense.
