A Sony State of Play was held this week where we saw some of the games coming to your PlayStation 5 throughout the year, as well as some titles in development for the new PlayStation VR 2. On the show, we have saw a new trailer for Baldur’s Gate 3 and it has been confirmed that it will arrive PlayStation 5 at the same time as computerbut nothing has been said about an Xbox version.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to PlayStation 5, PC, and Mac on August 31, 2023, but no Xbox version has been announced yet. However, this is not due to an exclusivity agreement between developers Larian Studios and Sony, as Larian CEO Swen Vincke clarified. “We do not play the game of exclusivity”. Said the CEO via his Twitter account after the announcement of Baldur’s Gate for PS5.

Via a reddit post on the dedicated Baldur’s Gate 3 forum, Larian’s community manager clarified that the studio had been working on an Xbox version for some time, but they ran into technical difficulties, especially with split-screen co-op. “We are still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we are not confident enough to announce it yet.“says Larian in the publication.

We don’t like to announce anything until we’re ready, because we don’t want to raise people’s hopes until we’re sure we can deliver.“, is the reason why Larian Studios has not yet announced an Xbox version for Baldur’s Gate 3, although it has been working on it for some time. Even so, Larian clarifies that there is no exclusivity on a platform that prevents Baldur’s Gate 3 from being brought to Xbox on the same day as PlayStation and PC, as long as it remains a technical possibility.

The latest trailer for Baldur’s Gate 3 also introduced a new antagonist with General Ketheric Thorm, a seemingly invincible necromancer brought to life by talented actor JK Simmons. The new trailer also shows us a bit of Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay, like the split-screen multiplayer that caused issues on the Xbox version.
