One of the highlights of Sony’s “State of Play” event yesterday was the confirmation Baldur’s Gate 3 It will be released in August. Unfortunately, no Xbox announcements were seen anywhere, even after the stream.

While Larian Studios has already confirmed with our colleagues at Push Square that the third entry will be announced for “additional platforms” when the team is ready, they have now issued another statement: It confirms the existence of a Xbox version and explains what exactly is happening. . In the wings.

On the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, Larian’s community manager explained how the Xbox version had been “in the works for a while” but had encountered “a few technical issues”. Split-screen co-op seems to be causing issues. It was also reminded that “there is no platform exclusivity” preventing certain disclosures, with the team not yet “confident enough” to announce this release.

Xbox players, we’ve seen your questions about if/when you can expect Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. We’ve been working on an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 for some time, but we’ve had a few technical issues: especially with the split-screen co-op mode. We’re still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not sure enough to announce it yet. We don’t like to announce anything until we’re ready, because we don’t want to raise people’s hopes until we’re sure we can deliver.

“There is no platform exclusivity that would prevent us from releasing BG3 on Xbox on the day and date, should it be a technical possibility. As we announce more platforms, we want to ensure that each release meets our standards and expectations. Thank you for your understanding!”

Larian Studios is the same team behind the popular Divinity Sin series. Although there are no Xbox announcements yet, Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to launch on other platforms in August 31, 2023.
