A few weeks ago, we learned that Avatar: The Sense of Water had become the fourth highest-grossing film in history, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That means he wasn’t too far from Titanic himself, also James Cameron. Many analysts were already predicting that the duel between the two blockbusters would end with the victory of the blue aliens from Pandora. Now it’s official.

Disney has released a clip and press release stating that Avatar: The Shape of Water has grossed $2.243 billion worldwide, making it the No. third highest-grossing film of all timeas the Titanic was at $2.242 million the last time we got an update on ticket sales.

This latest update is important, as Titanic was re-released earlier this month, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it reclaims third place. If not, Avatar: The Shape of Water can at least try to set its sights on Avengers: Endgame, even if it seems impossible to release Marvel’s $2.799 million film for the moment.
