We’ve known for some time that Audi would make its Formula 1 debut in 2026, but as that date draws closer and closer, the German motoring titan has begun to show the fruits of its labor as he is preparing to join the F1 Grid.

As detailed at the ongoing Auto Shanghai show, Audi has unveiled an F1 car covered in what it calls its “launch the livery”, and told us how the automaker is preparing to enter F1 with its own engine.

Oliver Hoffman, Board Member for Technical Development at Audi AG, said: “The Audi Formula 1 project has really taken off in recent months. In the ongoing design phase of the powertrain, the foundations of our powertrain for 2026 are being laid today. We attach great importance to detail work, for example , in materials or manufacturing technologies, and we also focus on topics such as hybrid drivetrain energy management.”

Hoffman then revealed that the engine Audi is preparing for F1 will be tested later this year and the results will form the “Basis for future vehicle concept”.
