There have been some seriously awesome Apex Legend skins over the years, from “The Victory Lap” for Octane, to “Man of War” by Fuse, and of course “False Idol” for Revenant. But as the Imperial Guard Collection event draws to a close and we look to the release date for Apex Legends Season 17, there’s one aspect fans (thirsty fans) want to see. Luckily, it looks like Apex Legends developer Respawn is finally bringing the Loba swimsuit to its flagship FPS game.
A bit of context. After the Imperial Guard Collection, dataminers discovered swimsuit skins for various Apex Legends characters, seemingly heralding a new beach-themed event with a set of matching cosmetics.
Unfortunately for some, while much of the Apex roster was expected to wear bikinis and Speedos, Loba, the loot support added in season five, wasn’t one of them. The indignation was general. The demand was strong. The Loba skin swimsuit was essential. Sorting out the awesome power of consensus, Respawn put it to a vote.
“Okay, here’s the deal,” the developer tweeted on March 22. “If this post gets 10,000 likes, we’ll add the swimsuit mask.”
In an impressive and heartening, albeit thirst-driven, act of democracy, Respawn’s post hit the 10,000 likes threshold in ten minutes. To quote Field of Dreams, “if you build it, they will come”. To quote myself, “if you promise Apex Legends fans that Loba will wear a bathing suit, they’ll do whatever it takes to get it.”
In an official response, Respawn’s Apex team seem to hint that the Loba swimsuit skin could be on the way very soon; Posted on the evening of March 22, Respawn writes “see you tomorrow”.
Alternatively, the next Sun Squad Collection event, where the swimsuit skins were originally found, is set to start on March 28, so we may not have Loba by then.
Since Respawn doesn’t specifically mention her, there’s also a very long shot that the swimsuit skin she mentions isn’t related to Loba at all, but given the recent hype and fervor, and Respawn don’t reference it. A swimsuit skin but he swimsuit skin, that seems unlikely. I think we can write this as another win for Thirst.
