Traveling the Highlands on your magic broom is a big step up from exploring on foot in Hogwarts Legacy, and you can fly even faster by saving Galleons to buy upgrades. However, these upgrades don’t come cheap, nor can you buy them right away. First, you need to have completed “Jackdaw’s Rest”, a quest that involves working with the ghost of Richard Jackdaw to uncover the Chamber of Maps beneath the academy’s foundation. You can then attend the piloting initiation course, during which Kagawa will make you practice the basics of piloting a broom.

After completing your first flying lesson at Hogwarts Legacy, your classmate Everett will suggest you visit Spintwitches Sporting Needs at Hogsmeade, a store operated by broom vendor Albie Weekes. After purchasing one of their picks for 600 Galleons, you’ll be ready to roam the Highlands freely on your very own flying broomstick. After the transaction is complete, Albie will discuss his passion for developing Brooms flight capabilities by supplying Broom upgrades to Hogwarts Legacy. However, for this endeavor you need stats, which you can provide by participating in Imelda Reyes’ three broom race events.

These races are fairly easy to complete and require you to follow a fixed flight path on your broomstick within a specific amount of time. You don’t have to worry about achieving perfection, as the time limit is relatively forgiving, allowing you to make a few mistakes while still reaching the goal on time. For example, in the first broom race event, we missed several of the “speed-boosting floating bubbles,” but still managed to reach the finish line with a generous time. After completing each trial, you must report to Albie on the results of the race. He will then fire you and ask you to come back later to buy the broom upgrade at Hogwarts Legacy.

For reference, below is a short list of all broom upgrade prices in Hogwarts Legacy, including the general prerequisites needed to unlock each one. Keep in mind that progression progression will vary from player to player, but completing main story missions is what mostly unlocks new Albie missions and their corresponding broom trials.
