With AI learning to write better and better lately, some writers have feared losing their jobs as they are replaced by new technologies. The Screenwriters Guild of America has proposed adopting artificial intelligence to support screenwriting.
However, rather than completely replacing writers, the WGA would only allow AI as long as writers were credited. I would view AI as a tool rather than a replacement for the writer.
The AI writing would also not count as literary source or material, meaning a writer could adapt an AI-written script and still receive credits and residuals for their work.
There’s still a long way to go before we see the AI scripts in action, as this proposed rule still needs to be approved by the AMPTP, which represents studios in Hollywood.
