Apply for a state stimulus check for more than $2,000: deadline is Aug. 15

Those who want to receive their Montana tax refund need to send in their tax return for income received in 2021

The $2,500 stimulus checks are, in the midst of 2023, a reality for Montanans. The campaign started since a tax rebate was passed that would make a dent in the pockets of its residents. So as of July 3, Montana has been sending out its first stimulus checks and perhaps the only ones for the remainder of the year. However, the delivery is not automatic and if you don’t want to be left out of this economic relief, you must submit your application by August 15 of this year.

Montana’s stimulus check makes its way through thanks to the passage of a tax relief bill.

“We now have a historic tax relief package, giving Montanans the largest tax break in state history,” said Governor Greg Gianforte at the press conference announcing the legislation.

Important Details for Montana Tax Refunds and Stimulus Checks

Those who want to receive their Montana tax refund need to send in their tax return for income received in 2021. Only there is a deadline, as the maximum period for you to do so, expires next August 15, 2023.

Now, if you did not file your 2020 tax return, even if you send your 2021 tax forms, you will not receive any refund, since one of the requirements is that you do not have any debts from 2020 or 2021.

In addition, people claimed as dependents were excluded from this payment. According to the Montana Department of Revenue, line 20 of your state Form 2 must be greater than zero in order for you to receive your income tax stimulus check.

It is expected that by August 31, 2023, most of Montana’s stimulus payments will have been sent to their destination. The order in which you will receive your tax refunds will be as you receive your returns.

For those who chose direct deposit, the money will arrive in their accounts automatically, while those who sent their paper returns will receive a check in the mail.
