Figures will be finalized on Monday, but the figure falls short of the forecast of up to US$140 million at the premiere

The movie about Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” dominated theaters over the weekend, raking in between US$ 95 million and US$ 97 million – almost R$ 490 million – in ticket sales in the United States and Canada, according to estimates from distributor AMC Theatres on Sunday.

The movie, called “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”, set a record for concert films, surpassing the US$ 29.5 million raised by “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” in its first three days in 2011.

The weekend’s results will be released on Monday. If current estimates hold, Swift’s film will fall short of box office analysts’ most optimistic projections, which predicted a domestic debut of between $100 million and $140 million.

Still, for movie theater operators such as AMC and Cineworld, the film has given a big boost to what looked like a lackluster list of films this fall in the northern hemisphere, after strikes in Hollywood caused delays in releases such as Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two”.
