Netflix recovers a documentary cancelled by Disney+.

‘En el nombre de ellas’ is the title of the series.

There are many series or documentaries that, at times, can hurt many sensibilities. Not all the topics covered in this type of content are fiction, many of the stories told are based on real events that are often painful for the protagonists. The topic we are talking about is a clear case of these things happening, but what is not usual is that a platform, which had planned to broadcast the series or documentary, backs down, pulls out and decides to cancel its broadcast.

The facts are really dramatic and painful since, when the truth about what happened became known, there was a good scandal in Spanish society. It was in January 2013 when a model went to the Juzgado de Instrucción nº4 to file a complaint for fraud against a well-known photographer, José Juan ‘Kote’ Cabezudo, however, behind that complaint there were more background issues.

An investigation that ended in a conviction

After filing the lawsuit, the lawyer Mario Diez began an exhaustive investigation after appealing the dismissal of the complaint. In it, it was discovered that the photographer was not a person with a clean past. In fact, the San Sebastian-born photographer was sentenced to 28 years and two months in prison for crimes of sexual assault, sexual abuse of minors, production and dissemination of child pornography and several crimes of fraud between 1992 and 2013.

After this record, a production company decided to give visibility to the story and told the reality of the case in a series. Nine years after the final conviction, the streaming platform Disney+ took over the broadcasting rights and scheduled it to air within its catalog of titles under the name ‘En el nombre de ellas’. But, without a clear excuse, Disney+ took a step to the side and decided to cancel its broadcast claiming respect for the victims and returning the rights of the series to the producer.

Far from the series disappearing into oblivion, at the end of May this year, the Netflix platform took over the rights and since a few days ago it can already be seen in this operator under the title: ‘En el nombre de ellas. The ‘Kote? Cabezudo’. In the series you can hear three different points of view, that of the victims who denounced the photographer, the testimony of psychologists and sociologists and the chronological point of view of how the events happened in the judicial process until the sentence is issued.
