The horror saga Final Destination is  preparing its return with a sixth film and for the occasion, New Line has hired the services of a director from Marvel.

Between the new Halloween movies , Scream ,  Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin,  and soon to be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre  or Evil Dead: Rise , it’s no wonder Final Destination , the cult horror saga of the 2000s. , is also preparing its return.

While not all  Final Destinations  are created equal , the five films grossed over $ 665 million at the global box office and the last film of 2011 still grossed $ 157 million worldwide for just $ 40 million. budget. As with Paranormal Activity , the producers therefore remain firmly attached to the franchise and the money it can still earn.

Announced in 2019, this new Final Destination  which presents itself as a kind of false reboot  has been held back by the pandemic, but according to  The Hollywood Reporter,  New Line recently hired Jon Watts , the director of the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy. , to produce the project.

With the filmmaker still having obligations to Marvel with his Fantastic Four film , he’s unlikely to step behind the camera as a director as of yet. On the other hand, he imagined a treatment of the scenario which will be written by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick, to whom we owe the horror film Wedding Nightmare  and the Last Scream .

Jon Watts’ wife and partner Dianne McGunigle will also be a producer alongside Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor, the franchise’s producers since its inception. Jon Watts also expressed his enthusiasm in a press release:

” Dianne and I have been die-hard fans of Destination Finale from the start. So being able to help shape a new story with the original team and New Line will be both fun and exciting. ”

However, Death will not slaughter anyone on the big screen. The new film will be released direct on the HBO Max streaming platform at an as yet undetermined date. No cast member or director has been announced either, but now that pre-production is kicking in, the news shouldn’t be long.
