Blackpink makes history at Hyde Park, Britain’s top music festival

BLACKPINK once again proved their status as one of the world’s top girl groups with a spectacular performance at Hyde Park.

BLACKPINK successfully completed their performance at the ‘Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Hyde Park’) in London, England on April 2 (local time). Following their performance at Coachella in the U.S. in April, BLACKPINK took the stage as the first K-pop artist to headline the top music festival in the U.K., the home of pop, leaving another significant footprint.

‘Hyde Park’ is a festival that brings together global pop stars and music fans from all genres, including rock, hip-hop, electronic, and R&B. BLACKPINK sold out the festival, attracting 65,000 people (according to the BBC) for their first appearance, demonstrating their broad popularity and ticket power.

BLACKPINK opened the show with “Pink Venom,” “How You Like That,” and “Pretty Savage,” all of which were received with great enthusiasm. Then, from a medley of hit songs to a solo stage that maximized the charm of the four members’ four colors, the band performed an overwhelming live performance with a strong band sound, making the audience’s adrenaline soar.

In particular, their unrivaled control and relaxed stage manners shone through. The members moved freely around the stage, including the raised stage, and interacted with the audience by handing microphones to the audience. The music fans responded with waves of pink pom-poms and bursts of chanting, raising the temperature to a fever pitch.

BLACKPINK’s high-quality stage production, befitting their status as a global artist, added to the immersive experience. Sensory graphics that changed in time with the music, colorful lights, and special effects that incorporated YG’s performance know-how, such as colorful fireworks, fog, and confetti, satisfied the five senses.

After performing for about 90 minutes, BLACKPINK thanked their fans for their concert-like support. “It’s such an honor to be here in Hyde Park, England. Our dreams have come true,” she said.

After the festival, local news organizations highlighted BLACKPINK’s performance. The BBC wrote, “BLACKPINK has made history. They are now one of the biggest groups in the world beyond K-pop,” and NME wrote, “K-pop is still not a mainstay at UK music festivals, but that could all change with Blackpink’s performance.”

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently in the midst of its BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK], the largest world tour by a K-pop girl group, mobilizing approximately 1.5 million people. After an encore performance in Paris, France, on May 15 (local time), the group will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, and the U.S. cities of New Jersey, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
