Daniel Radcliffe stated in a recent interview with IndieWire that young fans of the saga were “hurt” by J.K. Rowling and therefore from the beginning showed her support for the LGBTQ + community

Daniel Radcliffe, who starred in the Harry Potter movies, again made his position against J.K. Rowling towards the transgender community.

Radcliffe, 33, affirmed that the young fans of the saga were “hurt” by Rowling’s attacks and for this reason, from the beginning, he showed his support for the LGBTQ + community by pronouncing the phrase “transgender women are women”, in 2020 .

“The reason I felt like I needed to say something when I did was because, particularly since I finished Harry Potter, I’ve met a lot of queer and trans kids and young people who had a strong identification with my character.”

“And seeing them hurt that day, I wanted them to know that not everyone in the franchise thought that way. That was very important,” he said in an interview for IndieWire.

The British actor added that it was essential for him to make known his position against the writer because he has collaborated with The Trevor Project, an organization that helps prevent suicides in the community.

“It was really important, because I’ve worked with the Trevor Project for over 10 years, so I don’t think I would have been able to look at myself in the mirror if I hadn’t said anything,” he said.

In June 2020, J.K. Rowling was accused of being transphobic after making fun of an online article that used the term “people who menstruate” instead of the word “women”.

“‘Persons who menstruate’. I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Somebody help me. (Will it be) Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?“, Wrote the British when referring to the word women, woman in English.

It is worth mentioning that the controversy also faced disapproval from the cast of Harry Potter, including Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who issued their position in favor of the transgender community.
