The director of Terminator and Titanic is working in post-production on the next film in the saga.

James Cameron, the visionary behind Terminator and Titanic, transported audiences to the fascinating world of Pandora in 2009. It wasn’t until 2022 that we were able to immerse ourselves once again in the Na’vi culture with the sequel titled Avatar: The Way of Water, which triumphed at the worldwide box office.

The completion of Avatar 3 filming has fueled anticipation, as Cameron strategically filmed multiple sequels simultaneously. This approach led many to speculate that the third installment would hit theaters soon. However, Disney’s June announcement dashed those hopes, revealing yet another delay in the franchise’s schedule.

Addressing the setbacks during a recent conversation in Wellington, New Zealand, Cameron shed light on the reasons behind the postponements. “We’re in two very hectic years of post-production at the moment,” he explained. When asked about Avatar 3, he confirmed, “So it will be Christmas 2025″.

Highlighting the meticulous efforts invested in these films, producer Jon Landau spoke to Screen Rant, emphasizing the commitment to making a good audiovisual product. “Quality, quality, quality, quality,” he stressed. “We don’t want to do anything in any area without quality. If someone says, ‘I know it would be better to release this toy at Christmas, but it won’t be perfect,’ I would tell them to wait. Do it later, make it perfect because that’s our philosophy.”

Known for delivering top-notch productions, James Cameron and his team have accustomed audiences to excellence. The decision to wait is undoubtedly aimed at delivering exceptional films within the Pandora universe, reinforcing the idea that, for Cameron, quality takes precedence over immediacy.
